big pallet

It’s pallet season again…

And I’ve bagged a world record pallet on my latest hunting trip.

This has to be the daddy of all pallets I reckon. All the way from Poland to Norway it came, carrying a huge staircase. What better end for this pallet other than to recycle it into something that will give us years of comfortable pleasure. It’s difficult to get a sense of scale from the photo (I know I got caught out when I went to collect it without the trailer!) but the ‘slats’ on top are 2″ x 3″ (5cm x 7.5cm),  and it’s over 4m long…

But soon, after a little dismantling, this pallet will become our new ‘L’ shaped outdoor sofa on the balcony. Perfect for lounging about with a cold one after tiring oneself out building cool stuff…

The project started when I found out you can buy water resistant outdoor pads and cushions at the local IKEA store (buying waterproof fabric and foam here is ridiculously expensive, way, way more than the finished articles at IKEA). So, instead of buying a cheap plastic ‘rattan’ set for the best part of £1000 why not build one for about a quarter of the price?

Watch this space….

Stay well

Ian
