The secret to any project using reclaimed wood is acclimatisation, i.e. you must get the wood you’re planning to use for the project into the same environment where the finished article is going to live (for a week at least) before making the piece. For example, imagine if you build up your project with wood which has been stored in a cold garage and then you pop the finished piece in the lounge, in front of a roaring fire… I think you can guess what’s going to happen, yes? Yup. It’s going to …
Outdoor Sofa Made Out of Pallet Wood
We’re lucky enough to have a large, sheltered first floor balcony that seems to suck up the sun, keeping it several degrees warmer than the ambient temperature and it really needed better seating. Que large pallet pickup and out with the tools… First things first though. Design or more specifically, ergonomics. What is the best angle to use to get the most comfortable seating experience? After all, I intend to spend a lot of time sitting on this sofa! After a fair bit of reading around I settled on a …
Easy Bathroom Shelf
Made out of old pallet wood. Our bathroom shelf fell down again this week; the vacuum ‘suckers’ just don’t want to ‘stick’ to our tiles no matter how I do it. What better end for this pallet other than to recycle it into something that will give us years of comfortable pleasure. It’s difficult to get a sense of scale from the photo (I know I got caught out when I went to collect it without the trailer!) but the ‘slats’ on top are 2″ x …
Make a garden ‘bollard’ driveway light out of pallet wood and a glass jar
Winter is almost upon us as I write this, and the temporary post I made to mark the edge of our driveway is in danger of getting run over one of these dark evenings. But with nothing in the store I liked the look of, I headed into the workshop to see what I could knock up out of stuff I already had kicking around; here’s what I came up with… I love pallet wood (who doesn’t?!) and Norway is awash with reusable jam jars (called canning jars, Mason jars …
