This so simple solution will make you smile!
I use this tip all the time, mostly to help other folks out of a slippery situation. We live on a slight incline that seems to phase a lot of drivers who think they can stop half way up. Of course they are never going to get any traction on ice half way up a slope, even with regular winter tyres.
Enter the grit bucket I keep near the front door. Then I thought, wouldn’t it be a great idea to have some grit in the car also. Especially after we had to help out a member of the royal family here in Norway once who stopped to avoid another skidding car during a particularly weird icy spell. Of course once stopped, no way to get going again. The local solution is to shovel snow on the road which was a new trick for me to learn but it’s not very effective and a bit of a last resort. Now I go one better and always carry a couple of retired leaky water bottles full sharp grit.
One better than grit is to use the special lightweight stuff sold to put on your doorstep or the pathway to your front door. Amazon.co.uk sell a grit made from this special dry clay (in 4kg bags), which is super lightweight compared to stone. Or B & Q sell rough salt for road use.
Give putting grit/clay/salt in a bottle a try, you might never need it, but if you do, you’ll be the hero of the hour! You might even be able to rescue a damsel in distress, and then it’s happy ever after 😉
Stay well
