Dearest daughter complained about not having enough floor space for a desk in her bedroom, so what to do? She still needed the shelving unit so I had a think. How to free up floor space? Then I had a eureka moment, cut the shelves in half and shouted Wingardium Leviosa!

Flip one half over and push them both up to the ceiling and fix into place. I used timber trims underneath and at the front. I also re-affixed the hanging brackets and screwed them back to the wall as well.

And now there is plenty of floor space again. Hence another trip to IKEA to buy a desk…. (which I got dearest daughter to build!)
Actually casting a spell would have been much easier, but I had to make do with an extra pair of hands to hold the shelves up whilst I popped a few timber trims around the shelves to support them. I added the original brackets too for good measure.
What about you, any good IKEA hacks to share?
Stay well

Hi, How sturdy are these up on the wall?
Author
Hiya,
They are very secure. I sat them on a small batten screwed into the studs. Plus I used the 90 degree brackets at the top of the units, and finally, we have a small timber cornice here, so I ran that around the top edge too. Essentially, it’s impossible to come away from the wall!
Good luck with yours and let me know how you get on.
